You will likely never see me go for a commercial sugar free item as those tend to be filled with all sorts of chemicals. But at the same time, I love my sweets and enjoy having a balanced diet. So I started making my own sweets at home. One of my go-tos are pumpkin spice donuts. I love making a fresh batch during fall and having the whole house have that incredible pumpkin spice smell, it really makes fall feel real even in Florida.
Sugar is something I even kept out of Azaria’s diet till she was 2 years old and even now, she rarely has it. The only times she has sugar is at a party where it is relatively unavoidable for her to have sugar, like a cookie decorating party. Quite frankly, she does not even show signs of craving sugar because there is so much natural sugar within fruits, which she loves.
Another go-to in my house are date bars. They are a pick me up and an indulgence. We take dates, add in a mixture of nuts and some cardamon and it is another item that we all love. I rarely have any cakes or cookies in my house because these various sugar free or low sugar recipes are an indulgence enough.
There are so many benefits to keeping artificial sweeteners out of your diet, from the obvious weight gain to your energy. I love having a diet that is balanced with nature’s candy.

I should put a disclaimer out there, with all of this said, I am also a person that if I am really craving a piece of cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory, I will go and have some. If you make your body craves something for too long, you are more likely to over indulge rather than if you just had a little bit when you first craved it. It is all about balanced living.
