Being a mom & a business woman

One of the toughest balances I have had to find in my life has been being a mom to a toddler and having a demanding career. But, it is also one of the most rewarding feelings out there. You know you are working hard and being a good role model to your child.

I am fortunate enough to have the luxury to be able to find that balance in my life in the way I have found. When I first had Azaria, I was able to work from home and be with her for a year and a half. After that, I put her in school and went back to the office full time and initially, she was fine with it, but after about 6 months of it, she missed being with me. So I took her out of aftercare and had her in the normal school hours.

Prior to quarantine, I would pick her up at the end of the school day and take her straight to my office where I set up a play kitchen for her and got her favorite snacks. This become her new normal and she felt comfortable and enjoyed it. I was still able to get through mostly all of my work and be part of the meetings I needed to be part of. She felt happy with this new normal and is such a good kid that she was not causing a scene in the office.

There are so many stigmas and barriers out there for business women that are also moms. They make you feel like you can not do it. But guess what, you can do it and can come out on top. Where there is a will, there is a way. I have that will within me that I want to be the best mom I can be and have an incredible career. And so I found a way to blend both.

Quarantine has been tough, but I have a great support system of family and baby sitters that it makes it possible for me to continue because for me, work only got busier since quarantine and adding a child in the mix that is home full time made it feel impossible to conquer. But we have done it thus far. Again where there is a will, there is a way. So my message to all of you out there is that there is immense truth in the saying where there is a will, there is a way. And my message to all of you business women who are moms, you can be the best at both, just get creative and do not let others doubts ever get to you because you know those doubts/judgements/comments are only going to increase the more successful you become.
